Our Mission

The Developmental Disabilities Alliance of Western New York (DDAWNY) is a collaborative group of member voluntary agencies that provide services to people with developmental disabilities.  While honoring individual agency missions, it is the intent of the Alliance to assist agencies to develop relationships, promote unified strategies and share risks for the mutual gain with and for the benefit of people with developmental disabilities.

DDAWNY Press Conference

More than 100 parents attended a meeting of the Developmental Disability Alliance. These parents and support staff are coping with $152 million in cuts for their kids in western New York.

Wendy McCarthy of the Developmental Disability Alliance said, "We have a significant wait list of 1,000 people who are looking for residential opportunity and while the budget does provide for some new development, it does not significantly impact the current situation."

 
Parent Night- Blueprint for Change

Family Committee Special Meeting

The Family Committee of DDAWNY Hosts its Seventh Meeting on The Urgent Wakeup Call for Parents on Tuesday February 16, 2010 at 6 PM at Aspire, 7 Community Drive, Cheektowaga, NY.  

If you have a loved one who has developmental disabilities who currently resides in a living situation out of your home or may need one now or in the near future, you need to join this informed group of family advocates. We are demanding changes in Albany for our loved ones.

Senator Kruger's legislation

"Dear Friend- You spoke to us and we listened!"   That is how the Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Senator Kruger, begins his letter introducing new legislation that outlines an alternative deficit reduction plan.  He mentions how impacted he was especially by testimony given at the Senate hearings in Buffalo from someone speaking about the importance of services to people who have developmental disabilities.

American Worker: For a satirical look at the plight of Direct Care Workers, visit this website,  developed by United Cerebral Palsy and ANCOR, WhoWillCare.Net.  The site pits "Flip the Fry Guy" against "Carrie Caregiver" as the two contestants sing their hearts out for a raise and to become the next American Worker.
